We are a free standing psychiatric facility in West Seattle. We were formally known as West Seattle Psychiatric Hospital. We changed our name to Navos in June 2008. The new name is the Greek word for "temple" It also comes from the Latin word, "Navis," which means ship, boat, and vessel. The foundation for the name is in our mission to help people navigate through great challenges, transforming lives and spirits into the realms of wellness and wholeness.
Recently we completed an inside construction job that tore up our backyard and front entrance. We need help putting these spaces back into a decent order and getting ready for spring (is it really coming?). Our services are cut every year by the state, yet our costs keep rising. Our maintenance crew is strapped to the brink and can not keep up with little jobs to maintain the facility, but that set the first impression for people visiting or entering the hospital.
Navos can take up to 68 patients at any given time. 99.9% are detained involuntarily. The only way that a patient can be detained is if a Designated County Mental Health Professional evaluates them and finds they are either a danger to self, danger to others, or gravely disabled. We serve clients who suffer from profound mental illness to people who are having a situational event that caused a crisis. We are quite literally a last resort for many people in this area to help them through their worst day. For more information you can visit us on the web at www.navos.org.
