Dogs for Better Lives- Short-term Foster
Dogs for Better Lives trains assistance dogs for people with disabilites. Many of the dogs we train we rescue from shelters. Before training, newly recruited dogs from a shelter or rescue benefit from a transitional home to start learning appropriate behaviours and ease into working-dog life. The timeframe for transitional fostering is typically 2-4 weeks. DBL provides a crate and pays for vet bills. The foster provides food and toys and teaches basic house manners such as crate training, toileting outside, and staying off of furniture. After 2-4 weeks the dog goes to our campus in Southern Oregon to begin training as an assistance dog. Throughout their training fosters will get monthly updates on how the dog is progressing and notification when the dog graduates or is available for adoption.
