Description:
This project is done in partnership with the UW student group called Hindu Yuva. Come join this student group for the following project:
WACAP provides life changing aid and adoption services to orphans and other children who need families. Our vision is a family for every child.
Kids Day is WACAP’s popular picnic for local adoptive families and their children. It is attended by approximately 500 people and features entertainment, food, arts and crafts, and other family friendly events. The Volunteer’s job is to play with the kids – do temporary tattoos, oversee spin art, staff the popcorn machine and hula hoop station and monitor the bouncy house. Volunteers help to see that everyone is safe and has fun.
Volunteers oversee the children so families can visit with WACAP staff, many of whom have communicated only by phone and e-mail so it’s a treat to meet in person. Volunteer involvement allows staff freedom to interact with families they placed and to connect families with each other so they may find mutual support. Kids Day is a concrete way for the community to provide support and love to newly adopted children and their new families. (Many of the children are newly arrived from overseas or from a foster home.)
