Do Something
Prepare a Home for Someone Transitioning out of Homelessness

Agency: Plymouth Housing Group

Description: Plymouth Housing Group works to eliminate homelessness and stabilize homeless and very low-income people in housing by preserving, developing and operating safe, decent, affordable housing, and by providing opportunities for homeless and very low-income people to improve their lives.

Volunteers will prepare individual housing units for residents to move into the housing units in August 2010. This includes making beds, putting away household items and making sure everything is neat and clean. There are 45 single units in this building.

When tenants move into the buildings, many do not have the capability to organize their new apartment. Many are living with mental health or drug abuse issues which makes activities such as moving and organizing particularly daunting. Having a space with functioning amenities makes the transition from living on the streets much easier for residents, creating a safe, comfortable, secure environment for residents as they confront the issues they face to transition out of homelessness.
