Do Something
Help Women who are at-risk Turn their House into a Home

Agency: National Council of Jewish Women, Seattle Section

Description: When a woman makes the decision to flee a violent home she creates a list of everything she needs to take with her: money, identification, clothes for herself and her children, etc the items that make a house a home are not on that list...they are not the priority when seeking safety. When she and her children are ready to move into their own home, most often after living in transitional housing for anywhere from 1 month to 2 years, the family has no furniture, beds, dishes, and so on.

Shalom Bayit needs help organizing donated furniture items onto shelving, folding linens, as well as sorting and packing house wares in their furniture bank for survivors of domestic violence.

Please wear appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, and bring enough snacks and water to get through the project. Directions will be provided to volunteers after confirmation they would like to attend.

Please note most volunteer slots are from 1-4pm, but could potentially be shorter depending on the amount of donations the organization has received to be sorted. All days will always run a minimum of 1 hour, with most days running 2-3 hours, with all help being much appreciated. Thanks for being flexible!
