How does Chip In work?
You chip in $20 for an entrance fee which buys you four, $5 chips. Up to five HandsOn Leadership teams will be on hand to present the projects they are working on with our local nonprofit partners. You'll have time to chat one-on-one with teams, plus you'll hear a one-minute fast pitch from each team trying to sell you on their project. Cast your chips towards as many, or as few, projects as you like!
Additional chips are also available for $5 each during the event. After everyone has had a chance to make their choice, each team will cash out their banks and take home all of their winnings.
What kind of projects does Chip In fund?
All of the teams who pitch projects at Chip In have completed Seattle Works' HandsOn Leadership program. They have either completed or are in the process of completing a 3-9 month project with a local nonprofit partner. They come to Chip In because they've identified areas where they could expand their projects' success - and need some extra funding in order to do so!
Some examples of projects funded at Chip In are:
Take home math games for families who attend Zeno's MathFests across Seattle.
Opening night receptions to celebrate traveling shows of student photography around Seattle with Youth In Focus.
What kind of impact does Chip In make?
$20 doesn't seem like much, but with 50+ people donating it sure adds up! At our inaugural Chip In event we raised nearly $1,000 in just over an hour, which went to three nonprofit partners.
Teams love Chip In because they get a chance to show off their work and take their projects to the next level. Nonprofit partners love Chip In because they get to rely on their volunteer teams to serve as ambassadors and fundraisers for their organizations. Attendees love Chip In because it's fun and an easy way to give back!
