Seattle Works presents The Bridge, a dynamic training
program designed to give you the basics in nonprofit and
government board service.
Why Board Service?
Impact. There is
nothing better than making a difference in a child's life
through tutoring, or enhancing your neighborhood by cleaning
up a park. But think about the impact you could have if you
served on a board that determined how many children received
tutoring or which parks were receiving the most funding? On
a board, you give direction, you raise the money and YOU are
our community's steward.
Without boards,
our community institutions would fall apart... do you really
want to live in a community without them?
The Course
In a series of
three trainings, you'll learn about roles and
responsibilities of nonprofit and public board members in
addition to completing personal skill and interest
assessments.
The Bridge coursework focuses on:
• financial and legal responsibilities
• governance structures
• fundraising and public budgeting
• personal reflection
Following the
training, we connect you with service
opportunities, ranging from one-year placements to long-term
commitments. (Then again, you might decide this isn't the
right time, or that board service isn't for you. But at
least you know!)
The Bridge is a
basics course - if you have an MPA or have already served on
a nonprofit board, this might not be the class for you.
Currently sitting on a board and want training? Visit
United Way of King County's
board training classes to get more in-depth information.

In case you missed it, yes, we ARE talking about you.
You know how people always talk about "them" - those other
people who sit on boards, run for office... well, "those
people" are also the ones making decisions. If you're still
reading this,
clearly you want to make a difference. And we're here to
tell you that you can. In fact, you must - because our
community needs you. Your ideas, your generosity, your
talents and your experiences.
We're waiting...
