SOCIAL MEDIA
Seattle Works is excited to use social media networks like Twitter and Facebook to help spread the word about Seattle Works Day 2010 (SWDay). It provides a new opportunity for team captains, team members and their families, and the interested community to engage in conversation!
What does this mean to you?
Get involved! Are you active on any social media networks?
- Twitter.com
(Users send and read messages known as tweets with up to 140 characters. Often used for real-time updates during events.)
- Follow @SeattleWorks
- Use hashtag #SWDay for any tweets related to SWDay 2010
- Search for #SWDay to follow the conversation (you don't even need to have a Twitter account to do this!)
- Facebook.com
- Like us (or heck, we'll still say it, be a "fan!") to get the latest and greatest news!
- Use your status update to let people know about the event!
- Create an event just to recruit folks from your team, or add them to our Seattle Works Day event page. Grab graphics and text from this toolkit!
- Does your company (or team) have a presence online? Share your SWDay plans with them!
Find your Social Media Guru!
Do you know anyone who is always using words like 'tweet', 'fan', 'follow', or talking about their latest foursquare badge? Is someone in your life always on their iPhone or android phone updating their facebook status? Recruit them to be on your Seattle Works Day team! If every team has one person to be the Social Media spokesperson to share your team's accomplishments online - all of your friends, family, and co-workers will be able to applaud your hard work!
Ways they can share:
- Before the day:
- Follow us on Twitter, and friend us on facebook
- At the project site:
- Check-in with foursquare.com (location based social media network)
- Post Tweets about the project using the hashtag #SWDAY
- Post photos and project updates to Facebook
- Post photos to Flikr (details to come) or email pics to info@seattleworks.org
- Will be shared at the after party with the whole group!
Possible topics for Seattle Works Day can include information about the project site, project host, or neighborhood you are volunteering in. The project hosts are great sources for information about why your work is important!
